The Taiga Cordillera is a sparsely populated ecozone wich consists of Threehundren people. Two Hundred and fiftysix of these people live in a settlement called Old Crow which is the Yukons most notherly community.

The people that live in Old Crow are known as the Vuntut Gwichin First Nations. Old Crow is an isolated community. It is the only village in the Yukon Territory, and does not have road access. Old Crow is also the only Yukon community located north of the Arctic Circle.

The people of Old Crow like the long summer days and experience short days of winter. The Gwichin First Nations extend along the Yukon, parts of the Northwest Territories, and Alaska. For thousands of years, ancestors have used, and continue to use the land and its reasources.

In Old Crow, there is only one school. It is called the Cheif Zzeh Gittlit School. The classes run from kindergarten to grade nine. After grade nine the students go to a school in Whitehorse, and  there are only 70 students there, most are Gwichin people. In school the students learn math, language, social studies, arts, ect. Learning about their Gwichin Culture is one of the main things learnt in school.
